Edward S. Ageno School of Business

The Psychology Program

The study of psychology has become one of the top employment opportunities. The reason is obvious: for business in the twenty-first century to succeed and remain competitive, individuals and groups must be able to work cooperatively in a variety of situations, both with within the company and within international teams. Psychology, which teaches us about human behavior and the mind, is an essential vehicle for achieving that goal.

The field of psychology spreads its wings much further than the business world. Throughout society, there is a growing demand for counselors, therapists, mediators, organizational consultants, among a host of other career paths. These positions are being filled by professionals who can apply their knowledge to help others understand and implement change.

Whether your objective is to pursue a career in organizational development, human resources, mediation, private practice counseling, or community or social service agencies, you owe it to yourself to consider GGU's exceptional, contemporary approach to psychology.

A Broad Perspective

Golden Gate University's psychology program offers a fresh, applied curriculum designed by psychologists who are currently practicing in the field. We believe a broad exposure to the range of psychological thought and practice is important in helping you understand the field more fully and in selecting the career path within psychology that's right for you.

Real-World Experience

At GGU we emphasize applied psychology, based on a variety of theories and on sound research. Our programs provide you with the theoretical and practical knowledge you need to successfully pursue your career goals. Part of this preparedness comes from the practicum or internship option. First-hand experience in a wide range of settings in the San Francisco Bay Area enhances classroom work, and is available to any student.

Another contributing factor comes from the real-world experience of our practitioner faculty. At GGU, counseling skills are taught be therapists, while organizational psychologists lead courses on organizational development. Most of our professors are practicing professionals, so they understand the needs and demands of the contemporary workplace. Their insight affords you a window on the real world of psychology.

Student Organizations

You are encouraged to participate in a variety of discipline-related associations like the American Psychological Association, the Bay Area OD Network and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. In these organizations, you have the opportunity to socialize and network with fellow students, faculty and professionals.
